My time in PDX has been just grand. Last night’s dance party was brilliant, I can’t believe how many awesome people I have met in the short time I have been back in town. I’m certain there will be more mayhem to come.
Every image here is completely over processed in GIMP. This is pretty much how I remember the evening though.

Austrian Pils

Last night I made it over to the newly reopened Oak Restaurant, here in Boulder. They did a great job getting that place fixed up and expanded. The place is beautiful.

The bar was nice, but they only have one beer on tap. Which is unfortunate, but the beer they had was Consecration, a Sour Ale from Russian River. YUM.
Meeting up with some friends a second time for the night, we just huddled at the bar enjoying some conversation. I found on the bottled beer list, the Grieskirchner, Austrian Pils. It’s a really nice, light beer. Very easy to drink, light on nose, so there isn’t aroma. Typically I like a beer with a floral aroma to it. It’s not a complicated beer at all, which I can often appreciate. It was easy to put down three of them, they are about 4.8% ABV, so you won’t be to zonkered after a session.

The only problem I had was getting my tab, which wasn’t actually my tab. It had two different beers and a glass of wine. I had three of the same beers. That’s what happens when you hang out with my friends. =) All good in the end.

Farewell to the OtherSIDE

UPDATE: The OtherSIDE is not closing after all! The building owner evicted The OtherSIDE and the Mattress Store before actually securing a deal with the National Furniture Chain. =)

I made it out to the Otherside during my last trip to Boston. The beer menu was still nice, with an epic showing from Bear Republic Brewing company, as well as Left Hand’s Milk Stout.

The general mood of everybody was a down. I suppose have given in to the fact they no longer have a good job at a cool place. Even though the word that I got was they are looking for a new place to re-open. It could be a while until they are able to re-open in a new spot.

Well, I hope they find a good spot.

All and all it was a successful trip, I will miss the Otherside! A special thanks to and Fancy Pants, Jack Kramarczyk and Paget for making my last day in Boston a complete awesome.

The OtherSide

I just received word today that the Otherside in Boston is closing. I discovered how awesome the Otherside is, when Page brought me there three or four years ago, I took for granted that it would be there forever. Living in Boulder I have the Mountain Sun, when I go to Boston I have the Otherside.

My sadness cannot be conveyed appropriately in a blog post. I will really miss the staff and people of my favorite beer spot in Boston. The Boston beer community is losing a true landmark.

At least I will have time to get one more visit this year before they close their doors.
